Battle of The ‘Burg(h)s: Pgh vs. Jo-burg In Youth Summit Bid

Pittsburgh has been named one of two finalists in the bid to serve as host city for the 2012 One Young World Summit, a leadership forum convening 2,000 of the “best and brightest” 18-to-29 year-olds from around the globe.

The One Young World leadership development forum convenes this year from Sept. 1-4 in Zurich, Switzerland. Attendees of the forum – dubbed “the young Davos” by CNN when it began in 2010 – will address and identify solutions to such issues as global business and health, the environment, a changing media landscape and interfaith dialogue.

Nearly 30 emerging leaders from the Pittsburgh region will also attend, with blogpost updates available to come here at www.ImaginePittsburghOnline.com. Counselors at this year’s forum include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, U.S. Sen. John Kerry, Sir Bob Geldof, former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon, and Wael Ghonim, Google’s Middle Eastern marketing director whose Facebook posts helped to spark revolution in Egypt this spring.
